My Approach To Therapy

I am big on meeting people where they are at and building a solid therapeutic relationship/sense of safety before getting into anything, as I have found this to be the foundation of getting what you want out of therapy. You have to feel safe, in control, seen, and understood in order to become vulnerable enough to do the work. Working with me, you will find grace, gentleness, and warmth- paired with honesty and straightforward, authentic communication.

While I draw from a handful of therapeutic modalities, person-centered therapy and unconditional positive regard are foundations of my work. This means valuing someone as a whole, worthy human being without conditions or judgment.

I believe most responses to trauma, and most "negative behaviors" in general have likely served a purpose at one point in time, or have been powerful tools for survival, and together we’ll explore which patterns are still serving you—and which ones you’re ready to gently release.

Services

I provide individual therapy to children ages 11 and up, teens, and adults. While trauma is my main speciality, I also really love working with college students and people wanting to integrate their faith into therapy.

In-person and Telehealth

Individual Therapy

This is your hour to discuss/explore/unpack whatever issue that led you to therapy. The therapeutic modality used will depend on what your presenting issue is. I aim to tailor your treatment to your individual needs, which means I do not specifically practice one type of therapy with everyone I see. I pull from a variety of modalities including Internal Family Systems, Person-Centered therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based therapy, Trauma-informed Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I also offer faith-based services if you would like to incorporate spirituality into your treatment.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a specific kind of psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. This kind of therapy is particularly helpful for the treatment of trauma and PTSD. Meet Maddie

I am a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker and have been working as a therapist since 2020. After getting trained in EMDR shortly after beginning this career, I found that I was very passionate about all the different ways trauma can show up and how I can help. What I was especially drawn to was the shift that trauma-informed care had from the typical pathology-focused conceptualization of issues. I really appreciated the view that for many people, trauma-related symptoms and behaviors are an individual's best and most resilient attempt to manage, cope with, and rise above his or her experience of trauma. Instead of looking at a trauma-related symptom or behavior as wrong, I look at how it has helped you survive and whether that behavior may or may not be serving its purpose today.

I am EMDR trained since 2020. I also am a Certified Complex Trauma Professional (CCTP level 1 and 2) This training involves the neurobolgically-informed approach to the treatment of trauma.

Outside of my practice, I am a wife and mom to two little boys. I am a lover of tv and movies, puzzles, rainy days, and a good iced coffee.

I love the work I do and often feel so privileged to be in a role where I am witness to someones vulnerability, unique strengths, and capacity for growth and change.
